1443 Films was founded by Mel McCarthy and Nathan Blanchard in 2023 to add a sense of legitimacy to the low-budget comedies that they keep making.

Mel and Nate are a husband and wife filmmaking duo, writing and producing films with their funniest friends and whatever costumes/props/equipment they’ve got on hand. They believe there should be no gatekeepers to living a creatively fulfilling life, and that making strange art is what makes life worth living.

Although Mel and Nate’s names are the ones that appear on the business license and email signatures, they are surrounded by a team of highly talented collaborators that make 1443’s projects possible. Our creative crew is basically a multidisciplinary comedy troupe containing talented writers, performers, editors, camera operators, musicians, sound designers, costumers, prop builders, and so much more. Plus, they are hands-down some of the funniest folks we’ve ever had the pleasure of working with.
